Tribute to Mr Lee Kuan Yew

We feel that the Lady Thatcher tribute was the most meaningful one because she admired Mr Lee for his strength and also for his vision of the way ahead. In this society, we often take things for granted, therefore we do not know how to be grateful. Mr Lee thinks about the future and has a vision for Singapore, which we think that all students in Singapore should learn to create.

Group Dawn, Chin Ning, Taufiq, Sakshi, Xavier, Ashiq - Mr Lee

We feel that this is the most meaningful to us because the things he did impacted to all of us and after all the hardships that the pioneers went through, it made us really proud that we stood together through all the thick and as a nation. The passion that Mr Lee had was very strong and the fact that he was a man of his word and made things happen is very touching and we really appreciate all that he has done for us. So we are proud to be impacted by his great actions and we are very proud of Singapore now and Mr Lee himself.

Chosen Tribute
Why is This Tribute is most meaningful to us ?

The beautiful and artistic drawing by the student shows how much hard work and perseverance he has put into drawing the picture of LKY .  This shows how much respect the student has for Mr Lee and how he wants to repay his gratitude to Mr Lee via this drawing . The drawing shows how much dedication and contributions  Mr Lee has made to Singapore and hence , this chosen tribute is most meaningful to us .

Tribute to Mr Lee Kuan Yew

It really resonates with me because it just shows how deeply embedded his values and goals were. He is always remembered for his vision but, in my humble opinion, I remember him for his values and perseverance. Mr Lee was very upfront and clear about his views and goals, making his voice so very powerful, inspiring people.

Remembering Mr Lee Kwan Yew (Tan Jian Qing)

Reflection questions

1. How was Mr Lee as a person?

Mr Lee Kuan Yew was a visionary man who had the determination to transform Singapore into a modern metropolis. After experiencing life during he British Rule and the Japanese Occupation, he became aware of the unfairness due to the foreign rule and was determined that he will improve the lives of the people. He cared for the people and had a sense of neighbourliness among them. Mr Lee was also a person who would not tolerate corruption, and held the idea that what he do should not be what's popular, but what's right.

2. What are some of his values, beliefs and convictions that guided his actions and had a impact on his decision?

Mr Lee believed that he should do what is right and not what is popular. Also, Mr Lee believed that all races should be unified and live in harmony. This led to Singapore becoming a place where different races can live together peacefully and respect each other. He believed that education was a key factor in the prosperity of Singapore and allow Singaporeans to benefit in the future, where everyone would understand 2 different languages.

3. What are his key contributions to Singapore?

Mr Lee Kuan Yew was able to build Singapore up from mudflats into a metropolis. Mr Lee Kuan Yew also set up HDB, which was in charge of building flats for the people in Singapore to stay and live in. The HDB was able to provide homes for many Singaporeans by building lots of flats. Mr Lee Kuan Yew made Singapore a clean and green country too. Mr Lee’s original vision of a Garden City evolved over the years into the concept of a City in a Garden, with about 2 million trees planted around the island. This made Singapore a clean and green city, and in the process, beautify Singapore too.

Xavier

Mr Lee Kuan Yew was a great leader and sacrificed his entire life to develop Singapore from a third-world country to a first-world country. He was hardworking and knew what was best for the country. He loved Singapore and its people, and everything I have now - good education, a world without anything to worry about, and a country to be proud of - was due to his dedication towards building Singapore into a great country. Mr Lee Kuan Yew is truly the Father of Singapore, and everyone will be grieved by the passing of a great man. I will always respect him and he will always remain in my heart for the rest of my life. Words can never represent all the things he contributed to Singapore.

Self-Reflection (Misu)

Q1) How was Mr Lee as a person?
=Mr Lee was a caring person who always thought about Singapore. He even admitted to be suffering from insomnia whenever he had few problems to solve. Day and night, he worked hard to prevent corruption in the government, build a better community and achieve racial harmony.
In order to accomplish this, he was very determined to find the suitable policies for Singapore other than US Democracy. He openly criticised other nations who adopted US policies saying that it does not work in the Asia.
This clearly shows that he devoted his life to make Singapore a prosperous country.

Q2)What are some of his values, beliefs and convictions that guided his actions and had an impact on his decisions?

Q3)What are his key contributions to Singapore?
When he first had an ambition to make Singapore a better country, he wanted Singapore to be a lush green city. Since, 1960s he planted a tree annually to encourage other Singaporeans to join him. He was a role model to many people and could motivate them. Today, Singapore is widely known as a clean city where all the other countries to follow. Although Singapore is a small country, trees can be easily seen and there is hardly no air pollution. Also, this is one of the reasons why many foreigners want to live in Singapore.

He was passionate about Singapore. Everywhere he went, he was living and breathing Singapore. All he had on his mind was Singapore. Even when he was not in Singapore politics, he still cared for Singapore and was always worrying about the future of Singapore. Everywhere he went, he would find ways to improve the city further no matter what he was doing. For example, even when he was rather bereaved from the death of his wife, he still made an effort to be strong in front of others and never gave up hope no matter what.  Mr Lee was determined to make Singapore his success which was why Singapore changed so much because of him.

What are some of his values, beliefs and convictions that guided his actions and had an impact on his decisions?

One of his main contributions was the cleanup of the singapore river and also also reducing the blow to Singapore's economy when the British troops pulled out of Singapore( due to Mr Lee's good friendship with the British)

LKY RIP reflection grace

Mr Lee Kuan Yew was a good leader and did many things for Singapore. He was a good father to the nation. He was an awesome person who made this country for what it is today.

He believed in a nation that lived harmoniously together like a big family, treating each other not like step mothers or step brothers, but as an important member of the family. He was a visionary that believed in a clean and green Singapore, the garden city.

These are just some of the things he had done for Singapore

He formed the People's Action Party in 1954, which lead Singapore in the right direction. And these are just some of the things that he did to make Singapore what it is today.

Lee Kuan Yew led the PAP and had transform Singapore's living conditions, from slums to modern HDB flats. He had met the nation’s acute housing shortage. The PAP set up the Housing and Development Board in 1960 and builded 10,000 homes a year. Today, more than 80 per cent of Singaporeans now live in subsidised public flats that they can call their own.

He also made Singapore clean and green. Mr Lee applied the effort to stay clean to the island’s physical transformation as well. From the outset, he was adamant that urban development in the country did not proceed haphazardly. He had seen how a lack of planning had marred other cities, and was determined that Singapore did not make the same mistake. Mr Lee expressed his passion for greening Singapore in practical ways. He planted a tree every year, a tradition he started in 1963. This kicked off an island-wide tree-planting initiative and launched Tree Planting Day, a national campaign that helped Singapore earn its reputation as a Garden City.

Thank you Mr Lee Kuan Yew for everything. You will be remembered by Singapore. You are greatly missed ;-;

  • Some key contributions include forming the People’s Action Party in 1954, in which he acted as a legal adviser and negotiator representing postal workers who were fighting for better pay and working conditions.
  • Another one would be leading the nation through a merger with the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. He fought for their release and ran a campaign against corruption in the 1959 elections for a Legislative Assembly. The PAP won by a landslide, and Mr Lee achieved what he had set out to do to make Singapore a self-governing country. He believed that building a common identity between individuals would propel them across racial and religious divides towards a common land. Part of this was making sure that people felt that they are wanted,a very important member of the family. He campaigned relentlessly and tirelessly for merger, speaking over the radio, and in almost every corner of Singapore. After an intense public contest, Mr Lee won and most Singaporeans voted in favour of the union with Malaysia.
  • He allowed Singapore to be united by language as he believed that knowing one’s mother tongue would build a sense of belonging to one’s roots, and increase self-confidence and self-respect, thus he championed bilingualism. He believed in a better education for all, so that we may get a share of prosperity.

His values and beliefs was the cause for his wanting of a home-owned society for every individual of the country.
